Give Your Stairs Some Swagger – How To Make A Natural Christmas Swag

IMG_3351

It’s fairly simple to make a Christmas swag for your home to dress up your stairs or front door.  You don’t have to be “crafty” to make one and all you need is a few simple items.

A swag makes your home look so beautiful. They may look complicated but they are actually very easy to make.  I like to use natural materials provided from the earth and I dress it with a bow from a craft store.  Just like last year’s swag almost everything came from my front yard.

Here’s what I used:

  • Pinecones
  • Architoke (purchased at the market)
  • 2 Cedar branches
  • Magnolia leaves
  • Floral wire
  • Glue gun
  • Ribbon for a bow

How I made this year’s swag:

Step 1.  I cut 2 Cedar branches and a few Magnolia branches from the yard.

Step 2.  Attach pinecones to the branches using a glue gun.

Step 3.  Layer on the magnolia leaves and attach by wrapping with floral wire.  The most difficult part was attaching the artichoke which you don’t have to use.

Step 4.  Attach the cedar branches together with wire.  Layer the Magnolia & branch component on top and attach together with wire leaving the top branches free.

Step 5.  Attach a string or twine for hanging. Then attach a bow to cover the top branches.

I sprayed my new swag with a mixture of glycerin and water to help it stay fresh before hanging.
